Our
Aims and Objectives
All the services offered by Transgender Wales are
free.
Hate Crime Transgender Wales is extremely
concerned about the amount of unreported hate crime
affecting our "Wales-wide" community.
Transgender Wales will support any transsexual person to
deal with hate crime. Don't suffer in silence, help is
at hand from Transgender Wales, in the form of support
and assistance to take the matter to the police.
Transgender Wales has contacts within all four Welsh
police services.
Education and Training Transgender Wales is working with ELWa (Education and Learning Wales) to develop better ways to ensure that every transsexual person has access to life-long learning. This could mean attending a local college, university or a training agency. You all have the right to receive education or training to allow you to gain employment. You also have the right to receive further retraining.
Employment There
are no employment regulations that allow discrimination
against any transsexual person, despite what some employers
may say. Transgender Wales will support any person suffering
degradation or bullying from an employer or your work
colleagues. Do not suffer in silence!
Transgender persons can experience some problems with the Welsh Health Authorities, and Transgender Wales are willing to take up cases with the relevant authority. We have already been working in this field, with some success. We can also help with problems experienced with local doctors, local hospitals and or parts of the health services in Wales.
Housing problems can take many forms - neighbours may be the problem, or even a Housing Association, local Authority Housing Department or a private landlord. Remember, a Transsexual person has exactly the same rights as any other person. Neighbour nuisance can be dealt with in several ways. Transgender Wales has access to a vast amount of information on this subject.
How Transgender Wales came about Transgender Wales was formed out of the need of one of its founders for support. She was suffering serious Hate Crime. This showed that there was a need for a support organisation that was able to work with the police and other bodies in supporting any transsexual person through troubled times. One of the four police services asked another area how they managed to support a transsexual person. They advised that they had a person "on call" to give support. It was then agreed to bring the victim and the supporting person together. This was the start of Transgender Wales and from that day forward, we have not looked back. We can currently claim that we are working closely with all four police services in Wales. From this meeting a friendship was formed which led to the formation of Transgender Wales. Transgender Wales is a small self-funded organisation, but we offer help to any transsexual person in need. Transgender Wales is working to find ways to bring the Transsexual community together; at the moment it is somewhat fragmented across Wales. Our ultimate aim is to build a supportive community throughout Wales. The founders of Transgender Wales are both post operative male to female transsexuals themselves.
